I’m Ali Newton, the founder of Newton’s Paints & Crafts NZ. What began as a weekend passion project—transforming tired furniture with eco‑friendly chalk paints—has grown into a vibrant, community‑focused business right here in Auckland and as of February 2025 Nelson.
🎨 The Spark of Inspiration
When I discovered chalk paint, it felt like magic. A few brushstrokes, no sanding or priming—and suddenly a worn dresser looked brand-new. That thrill of watching ordinary pieces come to life was irresistible. I set out to share that joy with Kiwis everywhere, especially those who love DIY – or as I now call them, fellow Furniture Whisperers

With our residential‑based studio in Castor Bay, Auckland we stay small, nimble, and personal All our Chalk Paint, Malibu Mineral Paint, Casting Resin,Magnolia flexible mouldings and Stains are proudly made in NZ, low‑VOC, and crafted with eco‑principles at heart. Using these paints and products means low carbon foot print, less prep, less waste—and more fun.
A Learning Hub for Crafters
From our Auckland studio (open by appointment) to our new Nelson flagship store—where we’ve just launched classes—Newton’s has become a place for hands‑on creativity (Whether it’s chalk painting, decoupage with napkins rice paper, transfers & fibre tissue, stencilling, mould making or decorative wax effects, our workshops celebrate community, creativity, and connection. Plus, they’re seriously addictive (we call it the “painting addict” lifestyle)
