About Us and Chalk paint

Chalk Paint passion.

I'm Ali Newton, passionate "DIYer" and Co-owner of Newtons Paints. I founded Newton's Paint's in 2014. Back in the day I was an antique collector and restorer, in the times when you would spend endless hours stripping, sanding, shellacking and polishing and painting timber was considered a no no. Life, bringing up a family and working in the International banking world left me time poor for the next 15 or so years, so I never got to complete one particular sideboard project which I had already half stripped (with crazily toxic stripping products). I eventually did some research on a product that would be an easy way to finish the piece, without having to use toxic stripping products and came across no sanding/stripping needed chalk style paints. I fell in love with the soft authentic finish Chalk paint gives and the fact that it is super quick and very easy to use. Yes I got the "ChalkPaint Bug" in a big way! The one similar product sold in NZ was just too expensive. It spurred me on to research and collaborate with an awesome family run, bespoke NZ Paint factory to craft an eco NZ brand of affordable Chalk style paints.

So from organic beginnings, born out of a passion for creating and a desire to share the joy of up cycling and DIY, our ever growing range of DIY paint and Crafting products are also now retailed in select NZ boutique stores. 

We, as a company really do care about our customers and are absolutely crazily proud of our products and just loving seeing the joy people get out of up cycling and especially doing it yourself! We have made a personal commitment to keep our products affordable, so as many NZ'ers as possible get to experience the thrill of up cycling and transforming your living spaces.

Our "hero" top selling product is our fantastic, NZ crafted 40 colour Chalk paint range, Newton's Chalk Finish Paints®.

Newton's Chalk paints are low voc and proudly and professionally manufactured in New Zealand to exacting quality standards.
