Tips on Applying Decor Transfers.

Tips on Applying Decor Transfers.

Handy Do's and Don'ts Guide from the Transfer creators-ReDesign.

*To begin remember to remove the white backing before you begin applying the Transfer, the Transfers do adhere quickly, once applied they cannot be shifted. Be sure to place it in the right position before removing the backing and placing it on your project.

*We recommend sealing after they are placed on your projects, with the exception of glass/mirrors. Any water based sealant will work including polycrylic. Wax does not deteriorate transfers, we do not recommend oil based sealants as they may break down the transfer.

*When applying to glass/mirrors, do not use any chemicals or harsh cleaners as this may affect the application process of the Transfer.

*Wait at least 24hrs after painting a piece to apply Transfer. Be sure the surface is clean and that any cleaner residue is removed to make the transfer apply smoother and adhere easier.

*Transfers will not adhere on to waxed surfaces.

*Be sure Transfers are not being applied onto peeled paint, chips or old varnish that can be easily scratched off.

*If you are attempting to apply your Transfer and you notice the adhesive side has paint, the Transfer has lifted your paint. Be sure to allow time for any paint to dry prior to application for best results also ensure there is no dust or grime on the surface.

*Do not attempt to apply sealant or wax over a transfer that is not adhering .It will not adhere even with sealants.Be sure to follow the proper steps before adhering any transfer.

*Prevent any air bubbles by making sure you apply the transfer evenly. Apply the Transfer with the included applicator or an applicator tool. As you pull apart the clear sheet, rub the Transfer pushing it softly onto the surface.

*If you are using raw wood, barn wood or driftwood ensure the surfaces are cleaned thoroughly. These woods have cracks and debris that may be hidden & prevent successful application of the Transfer. Be sure to sand if necessary, and allow the wood to dry completely after cleaning. Seal the wood with a water based sealant (such as Newton's Varnish) and allow at least 24 hours before application.

*Some Transfers may have reactions with certain sealants such as oil based sealants. Glossy paints, glazes and other speciality paints may affect the application. We recommend water based sealers and waxes for best results.

*Commercial products such as canvasses have coatings. Some may repel the Transfer and cause peeling. Be sure to seal them first before applications. You can use Primers, White gesso and other sealants.

*We do not recommend storing Transfers in warm areas as it will be damaged by heat. We also do not recommend placing yourTransfer in a freezer or fridge as this is not a recommended practice.

*if you have any corners or edges lifting, gently paint a very thin coat of clear glue such as Decoupage glue or Mod Podge in the area that is lifting. Allow 10-15 mins and gently press your transfer. Allow it to dry for more than an hour.
