La Folie is reminiscent of stepping into a historic French manor at Christmastime, where elegance and whimsy mingle in the candlelight. You’re invited to a prestigious Christmas Ball, and you walk in to see warm, glowing chandeliers, elaborately painted wall panels, and merriment in every corner of the room. The walls are decked with winter foliage in swags of lavish greenery.
This Paint Inlay was inspired by a primitive French wall covering, lovingly recreated and named after the building where the original once resided. The collection is distinctly primitive French folk, with dainty and delicate details woven throughout. There’s something both merry and sophisticated about it, like a joyful waltz through a classic French chateau dressed for winter.
Use La Folie to create romantic small decor sets with floral borders and botanical swags, or pair it with creamy ivory chalk paint on a tray or IOD Wood Arch for an elegant French relief. Embellish a chippy vintage bench or chest for a timeless piece that introduces French countryside charm to your home all season long.
And don’t stop there! Try layering the delicate florals onto the center of a few mismatched plates for a darling display in a china cabinet or kitchen hutch. Floriography pairs beautifully with full-color floral accents from the Rose Botanicals Transfer.
Iron Orchid Design Paint Inlays are the artisanal answer to decor transfers. They are not a decal, they are not a synthetic film, and they are not a decoupage.
When you apply an IOD Paint inlay, artisanal paint is embedded into your surface and the paint is removed, leaving an authentic painted design and a buttery, almost leather-like surface on your piece.
The results are visually interesting, texturally complex, and often inherently distressed. And as if once isn’t enough, you can often get a beautifully faded second impression, sometimes even a third!
Each pack contains Eight 12” x 16” sheets.
Create a cohesive, romantic bedroom set with a dresser and nightstand that complement each other, utilizing wreaths to frame knobs or accentuate drawer corners. Save those inlay sheets for additional uses (getting fainter each application). The second use of the inlays lends itself well to a French Flea Market style, reminiscent of a Jane Austen movie.
Handy Tip: When using small cut-out inlay sections, we recommend using a clear topcoat inlay into, which will help mask textural differences and slight edging that might be more noticeable when laid into paint. The IOD Paint Inlay 101 can help you with this technique.
IOD Paint Inlays are the artisanal answer to decor transfers. IOD Paint Inlays are not a transfer, decal, synthetic film or decoupage. IOD's patented Paint Inlays are a brand-new product line exclusive only to Iron Orchid Designs. When you apply an IOD Paint Inlay, artisanal paint is embedded into your surface, the paper removed, leaving an authentic painted design and a buttery, almost leather-like surface on your piece.
IOD Paint Inlays are made from a proprietary artist-quality paint which was formulated specifically for decorative use.
Please follow step-by-step instructions on the reverse of the Paint Inlays.
IMPORTANT NOTE: IOD recommends for best results with basic application, use a chalk-type paint such as Newton's Chalk Finish Paint, Malibu Mineral Paint and topcoats can also be used, but the timing and results will vary, so check out IOD tutorials for that and more special technique videos.
